Technical Project Manager piping
The Technical Project Manager piping leads mechanical and piping discipline delivery across Balance of Plant construction areas, ensuring technical excellence,
safety and on-time completion. This role directly impacts plant performance by integrating piping systems work with overall project goals to deliver reliable, cost-effective industrial facilities.
Responsibilities
· Manage all mechanical and piping discipline activities to ensure compliance with design specifications, technical standards and project requirements.
· Coordinate with Plant Unit Project Managers and Construction Managers to integrate discipline-specific work into the overall plant unit schedule and scope.
· Oversee contractors and suppliers (PMC, engineering partners, OEMs, construction partners), monitor progress, and enforce quality and safety standards.
· Track discipline-related progress, costs and resources; report status to the Technical Discipline Manager and Construction Area Project Manager.
· Identify technical risks and drive mitigation plans with stakeholders to minimize schedule and cost impact.
· Review, approve and manage deliverables within the discipline, ensuring documentation, testing and commissioning readiness.
· Provide technical input to procurement and contract negotiations; assess and implement approved change requests.
· Apply lessons learned and continuous improvement practices to enhance delivery efficiency and reduce project risk.
· Ensure adherence to design-to-cost targets and adjust activities to meet financial and schedule objectives.

Required and Nice-to-Have Skills & Experience
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in design, construction and installation of mechanical and piping systems on industrial projects (water treatment, wastewater, fire building, compressed air systems, etc.).
Proven track record managing contractors and suppliers, and delivering discipline-specific work on time and within budget
Strong knowledge of piping systems, materials, mechanical installation practices, and relevant industry regulations and standards.
Excellent leadership, communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills; ability to work on site in Luleå for extended assignments (12–36 months).
Experience with change control, cost monitoring and technical documentation management.
Nice to have:
Experience with Balance of Plant projects or heavy industrial construction environments.
Familiarity with commissioning and startup of piping systems and mechanical equipment.
Prior involvement with procurement technical evaluations and contract negotiations.
Knowledge of design-to-cost methodologies and continuous improvement frameworks.
Reporting Line & Organisational Context
The role reports to the Technical Discipline Manager and has direct working relationships with Plant Unit Project Managers and Construction Area Project Managers.
The Technical Project Manager acts as the discipline lead within assigned construction areas and liaises upward for technical guidance, escalations and performance reviews.
Team Structure & Collaboration Interfaces
The Technical Project Manager collaborates closely with cross-functional teams including construction managers, procurement, quality assurance, commissioning, engineering partners and OEMs.
This position leads discipline engineers and site specialists and coordinates with other Technical Project Managers to ensure seamless integration across plant units and Balance of Plant systems.
Deliverables & Success Metrics
· Approved discipline deliverables (drawings, datasheets, installation procedures, test records) submitted on schedule.
· On-budget delivery of discipline scope measured against design-to-cost targets and earned value indicators.
· Timely resolution of technical non-conformances and reduced rework through quality assurance measures.
· Clear, up-to-date documentation and progress reports to Technical Discipline Manager and Construction Area Project Manager.
· Successful commissioning milestones and handover of mechanical and piping systems with minimal punch items.
Tools, Technologies & Domain Context
The role requires familiarity with mechanical and piping design tools, industry codes and standards, construction management systems and common project controls tools.
Experience with technical documentation systems, change management platforms and cost-tracking software is valuable. Working on site in Luleå,
the role operates within industrial Balance of Plant contexts such as water and wastewater treatment, fire building systems and compressed air plants, where safety, reliability and regulatory compliance are essential.
