Role purpose

As a Project Engineer in the Project Development team, you will contribute to the technical delivery of early-phase industrial projects. You will be responsible for managing the technical scope and quality of engineering deliverables in both smaller engineering study and major (>€1B) projects. This role focuses on pre-FEED and FEED stages and is crucial to ensuring projects are technically robust, aligned, and ready for execution.

Key responsibilities and tasks (not limited to)

You will own the scope of engineering studies, including design, technical scope, schedule, budget and stakeholder engagement/management. You will be involved in, and will be required to lead elements of complex, multi-disciplinary projects, developing technical requirements and timelines, driving projects/work packages through to completion.

• Own and drive technical engineering deliverables in pre-FEED and FEED, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project objectives.

• Define design basis, develop technical requirements, and ensure high-quality input to engineering documentation and specifications.

• Lead external engineering partners, ensuring high-quality and timely delivery of scoped work packages.

• Monitor engineering progress, identifying risks and coordinating mitigations with the engineering and project team

• Lead or coordinate discipline interfaces, ensuring cross-functional engineering alignment (e.g., civil, mechanical, electrical, automation).

• Manage technical reviews (e.g., HAZOPs, design reviews, constructability reviews) and close out actions in a timely manner.

• Ensure compliance with industry standards, legal regulations, and internal quality, health, safety, and environmental policies.

• Contribute to scope definition and design development for modularization and standardization opportunities.

• Provide technical support to procurement, including development of scope descriptions and review of vendor documentation.

• Mentor junior colleagues.

• Promote technical best practices and continuous improvement, including contribution for project development.

Requirements

Education and certifications

• Master’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical, or related discipline)

Experience

We are looking for applicants that have previous engineering/project management experience in an industrial plant environment and possess significant experience in delivery of engineering projects. You will be able to adapt to, and excel in, a dynamic business environment and should be a problem solver who can work with many stakeholders to drive cross-functional teams to a common goal.

• 8+ years of relevant industry experience with steel manufacturing processes or similar heavy industries

• 5+ years of experience in early-phase engineering (concept, pre-FEED, FEED)

Competences and skills

You should also feel comfortable with data and basic data management tools, to be able to quickly share updates on progress. You may functionally supervise Design or Engineering teams, as well as the work of other Project Engineers. The position will offer a unique and complex engineering challenge that will require persistence, innovative thinking and a positive attitude

• Deep technical competence in at least one engineering discipline with ability to engage across others

• Ability to develop, challenge, and optimize technical designs in alignment with project constraints

• Proficiency in engineering design tools and digital collaboration platforms (e.g., model reviews, document control systems)
